Military Honors

Military honors                                                                      

are performed every day,

at gravesites of our veterans

all throughout the USA.

Friends and family gather

to pay their last respect.

And standing by, an honor guard

of comrades to the vet.

A gun salute is fired.

Shots ring out in the air,

in honor of a veteran

who is being buried there.

Then the part that makes the heart

send teardrops to the eyes.

The clear, crisp sound of Taps

echo’s softly through the skies.

It’s sounding bids goodbye

to one of our country’s best,

and there another hero

is, with honor, laid to rest.
