Too Late

You walked slowly to my casket

and looked down with saddened eyes.

The words of love you whispered

really took me by surprise.

I didn’t know you felt about me

as you just implied.

I wish I’d heard these words of love

long before I died.

Why did you wait until today

to say what you just said?

It’s too late now for loving words,

for as you see…I’m dead.
