Grandpa’s Balloon

The little child’s red balloon
sailed quickly to the sky.
She’d lost her grip upon the string
and soon began to cry.

I watched her mother pick her up
and dry her tearful eyes.
And as she spoke I realized
this mom was very wise.

She said, “My little sweetheart,
you shouldn’t be so sad.
Your balloon is off to heaven
to visit your granddad.

Watch as it keeps climbing
with a message of your love.
It won’t stop until it finds
his happy home above.”

How quickly all the sorrow left
this precious little child,
and when it disappeared from sight,
how beautifully she smiled.

She looked toward the heavens
high in the sky of blue,
and shouted in a happy voice…
Grandpa! I love you!
