A Kiss On The Cheek

When I was just a child

You’d come quietly to my bed

and kiss me on the cheek.

You would whisper, “I love you”

Followed by “ sleep tight”,

and with feelings of contentment

I slept peacefully thru the night.

I still remember fondly

those days so long ago.

I loved you then and love you still,

More than you could know.

I walk slowly to your casket,

as you lie there asleep

and carefully bending over

gently kiss you on the cheek.

Tears fall from my eyes

as I whisper in your ear,

“Goodnight, I love you…

Sleep Tight mother dear”.
