Broken Chain (Original)

We little knew the day that

God was going to call your name.

In life we loved you dearly,

In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you

But  you didn’t go alone.

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories.

Your love is still our guide,

And though we cannot see you

You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken

and nothing seems the same,

but as God calls us one by one

the chain will link again.

Tears of Joy

Now I lay me down to sleep. Those who loved me mourn and weep. Time on earth has come and gone. Yet in spirit I live on. I awaken and behold Heaven with its streets of gold. Such beauty, peace and love I see. Shed but tears of joy for me.

Somewhere

Somewhere, in another place beyond this atmosphere; Someone’s waiting for me. ...Someone very dear. A place where peace and beauty are well beyond compare. A place where love will live again. Somehow, Sometime, Somewhere.

Lonely Moon

If every time I thought of you a star fell from the sky; The moon would soon be left alone with nothing but to cry.

I know exactly how you feel. We lost my brother in March of this year and life seems no longer real. I miss him dearly daily and feel lost without knowing I can’t pick up the phone and chat. Now my chats are alone and I know he hears me. He has visited me via the most beautiful Cardinal bird you have ever seen.

      Dr. Gaither,
Thank you for your note. It is very touching when a doctor goes the extra mile for a family who is grieving. I hear from many doctors and nurses. You may want to consider my book, “One By One The Chain Will Link Again”. It has 96 heartfelt bereavement poems such as, “A Beautiful Day In Heaven” “I Live On”, and, “Heaven’s Light”. Many are specific to gender and circumstances.

We read this at our aunts funeral just a month ago.
She didn’t have children of her own and raised my sister and I as her own during good and hard times.
She was the chain that held us all together and we have all been so lost without her.
When we had no words for the loss we felt and still feel this poem gave us a voice and moved so many.
She was so well known and so loved, we were approached after the funeral by her friend and neighbour who’s a very well known musician and advised he had never heard these words but he told us it moved him to tears when he has not cried in many years.
We all felt this was very apt to her memory and always will x

Thank you so much Mr Trammer. I heard this poem at a recent memorial service. I will be reading it at another memorial on on Sunday for my dear friend Jan. She meant the world to me, and your poem expresses that. In the last stanza, I will (with apology to you) add “friendship” to the first line “Our family and friendship chain is broken…” I’ve lost four friends in the past three months. Your poem brings comfort. I’ve left a copy of it with my will, so that it may bring peace to my children also. Very much appreciated. God bless you!

As her only child, my mum was a very strong presence in the lives of myself, my husband, my children and their children. We truly were a family chain. The poem gave us strength.

    Hello Ron,
I just lost my brother on April 26, 2018. He will be missed. I need to write a memory in the obituary part of the news paper. I love the last part of your poem:
    Our family chain is broken
    and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one
    the chain will link again.

I wanted to ask permission if I can use that last part for the memory?

I first read this beautiful poem at my mother- in-law’s after my husband’s father passed away and a couple of years later I lost my best friend — my Mom and I had to have it — it is in a beautiful black wooden frame with gold lettering and it holds a 4X6 photo in the center which I have a picture of both my Mom & Dad, would like to find another one ,for my sister but so far nothing–can’t remember where I purchased it
