Pretending

I placed flowers upon your grave,

as I do each time I’m there.

Then with an overflowing heart,

I said a little prayer.

I thanked my Heavenly Father

for the time I had with you,

and told Him how I miss you,

(knowing He already knew.)

I smiled, thinking of the love

and happiness we had.

Then cried, because without you

I’m lonely, and so sad.

I close my eyes as I pretend

that you are here with me

and feel your warm embrace

as you kiss me tenderly.

With every day that passes,

I celebrate it’s ending,

for time will bring me there with you

and I can stop pretending.
