If I Were a Poet

If I were a poet, dear mother of mine,

I’d write you a poem, with love in each line  .

There are so many words my heart wants to say,

for it suffers the most since you passed away.

I’d tell you I think of you all of the time,

With heart touching words of expression and rhyme.

Such beautiful words would be written to you.

that Frost would be jealous, and Longfellow too.

They’d be put in a book for others to see

And they’d all want a mother like you were to me.

If I were a poet.
