True Treasure

Of all our earthly treasures,
be they big, or be they small,
remember it was God who gave
the greatest of them of all.

It’s not the house we live in,
or precious fine jewelry.
It’s not our job, or bank account,
or new big screen TV.

It isn’t fancy, costly clothes
to wear upon our back,
and it isn’t that great feeling
in a brand new Cadillac.

Although we may find joy
in the pleasures money brings,
these are not true treasures.
They are merely “things.”

If things become our treasure,
greed and pride will grow.
“For where your treasure is,
there will be your heart also.”

So what is the greatest treasure
we have upon the earth?
What is ours, above all things
most valuable in worth?

And what is ours in life,
that in death will never flee?
The greatest treasure of them all
we call… Family
